I'm locked in a running battle with my fat thighs. We've been going at each other for almost as long as I can remember. Right now, they're winning. I love how well they work. I just wish they'd do it without so much jiggling.
But recently I spent 20 minutes publicly working out for the first time in more than a year, and even my thighs enjoyed it. I was the guest host as St. Teresa of Avila (STA) in Southeast Washington, DC launched its fitness ministry. As part of the event, fitness instructor Monique Townsend put us through a challenging but fun 20-minute workout. I'd forgotten how much fun group exercise classes can be. Let me be honest. I'd forgotten how much I actually enjoy working out!
I've spent a lot of lifetime dealing with my weight, so I'm tired of it. Especially since I only recently realized that I actually had the body I wanted during most of that time! But since the class, I've been more aware of what I eat. Don't get me wrong. I've had some sweets, but definitely not as much as I would have. My meal choices have also been healthier. I actually think I will soon be ready to launch yet another Reclaim My Fitness plan. That's what I call them. "Periods of diet and increased exercise" sounds tasteless. Who wants that? After all, "taste" is part of what forces us to need "diets." So ... Reclaim My Fitness.
There are a million different ways to Reclaim One's Fitness. I even read a recent Washington Post article about gardening activities that help you feel the burn while planting your buds.
Whatever way we choose to stay fit is worthwhile. So, a big THANK YOU to Zenia Smith at STA for encouraging those of us at the event to Reclaim Our Fitness, and to be thankful for whatever properly functioning body parts we have. Even if they jiggle.
