Theresa Caldwell is a public speaker, communication/oral presentation trainer, and freelance writer whose eclectic mix of media, government and artistic experience informs her work encouraging diverse groups and individuals to build bridges using more effective communication. She specializes in revealing the powerful communication tools of the people she works with, and demonstrating how they can use those tools more effectively right away. Theresa’s engaging, informative and interactive presentations provide practical solutions to communication challenges, and inspire participants to look at how they share information in new ways.
Theresa is also the producer and substitute host of The Audrey Chapman Show, Washington, D.C.'s top-rated relationship/self-help talk show. The program airs on WHUR-FM and SiriusXM Channel 141.
Theresa is a Certified Listening Professional. This distinction is awarded after a rigorous, year-long program administered by the International Listening Association, of which she is a member. She is also an award-winning member of Toastmasters International (2005 District 27 Table Topics Champion), and has led effective communication workshops for several organizations, including the U.S. Army MWR (Morale, Welfare and Recreation), the Northern Virginia Urban League Young Professionals Network, the Virginia Leadership Institute, the Women's Business Center of Northern Virginia, and WBIS (Women Building and Investing in Success, based in Northern Virginia).
She was a member of Congressman Jesse L. Jackson, Jr.’s staff for more than a decade, serving in various capacities including chief of staff and deputy communications director. While on leave from Congressman Jackson’s office in 2007, she managed Chicago 7th Ward Alderman Sandi Jackson's first winning campaign. Theresa also worked as the director of the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission's Lincoln Legacy National Town Hall program, leading the coordination of nine of the 11town halls in the series.
Theresa's experiences also include: writing for television and radio news and public affairs programming, serving as Rev. Jesse Jackson's press secretary, producing UMTV's (University of Maryland cable) award-winning special "David Driskell: The Symbolic Language of Art," narrating Public Radio International's special on the late Texas Congresswoman Barbara Jordan, serving as on-site publicist's assistant for the legendary Newport (RI) Jazz Festival, and performing as a member of the Bamidele Dancers and Drummers African dance company (Massachusetts).
